16-bit dimming is a highly precise brightness adjustment technology, mainly used in display or lighting devices such as LEDs and OLEDs, and it can provide more delicate and smooth brightness variation effects.

1. The meaning of bit

In dimming applications, the number of bits represents the resolution of the brightness level. 16 bits means that the brightness is divided into \(2^{16} = 65,536\) levels, far exceeding the traditional 8-bit (256 levels) or 10-bit (1,024 levels) dimming accuracy.

2. Dimming Principle

The light source's on-off time or current magnitude is controlled through PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) or DC (Current Regulation) technology. With 16-bit precision, the duty cycle or current value for each level can be accurately adjusted to achieve minute changes in brightness.

Technical advantages

No flicker

High bit rate enables high-frequency PWM signals (e.g. > 3,840Hz) to be maintained at low brightness, avoiding human eye perception of flicker and reducing visual fatigue.

Smooth transition

The 65,536-level brightness enables a more natural change in brightness (such as sunrise, gradient colors), avoiding the "step-like" jarring effect.

Low brightness performance

In extremely dark environments (such as 1% brightness), 16-bit can precisely allocate current, resolving issues of color shift or flickering at low brightness levels.
