What does IP rating mean ?

The IP protection level is composed of two numbers; the first number indicates the lamp dust prevent foreign object intrusion level; the second number indicates the degree of tightness of the lamp against moisture and waterproof intrusion. The larger the number, the higher the protection level.

The first number of ip rating

0: No protection: No special protection for outside people or things.

1: Prevent the invasion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 50mm, prevent the human body (such as the palm) from accidentally contacting the internal parts of the electrical appliance, and prevent the invasion of foreign objects with a larger size (diameter greater than 50mm).

2: Prevent the invasion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 12.5mm, prevent human fingers from contacting the parts inside the contacts, and prevent the invasion of foreign objects of medium size (diameter greater than 12.5mm).

3: Prevent the invasion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 2.5 mm; prevent the invasion of tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5 mm; and contact the parts inside the electrical appliance.

4: Prevent the invasion of solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 1.0 mm; prevent the invasion of tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0 mm; and contact the parts inside the electrical appliance.

5: Prevent foreign objects and dust; completely prevent foreign objects from invading; although it cannot completely prevent dust intrusion, the amount of dust intrusion will not affect the normal operation of electrical appliances.

6: Prevent foreign objects and dust; completely prevent foreign objects and dust intrusion.

The second number of ip rating

0: No protection, no special protection against water or moisture.

1: Prevent water drop immersion; vertical falling water droplets (such as condensed water) will not cause damage to the electrical appliance.

2: When the tilt is 15 degrees, it can still prevent water droplets from being immersed, and when the appliance is tilted from the vertical to 15 degrees, the water will not cause damage to the appliance.

3: Prevent the water from being immersed in the spray wine, prevent rain or prevent the water sprayed by the spray wine in the direction of the angle less than 60 degrees from invading the electrical apparatus and causing damage.

4: To prevent splashing water immersion, to prevent water from splashing in all directions from invading electrical appliances and causing damage.

5: Prevent the injection of water immersion, and prevent low-pressure spray lasting at least 3 minutes.

6: Prevent large waves from immersing and prevent a large amount of water spray lasting at least 3 minutes.

7: Prevent the immersion of water when submerged, and prevent the impact of 30 minutes of immersion in water up to 1 meter deep.

8: To prevent the immersion of water when sinking in the depth of more than 1 meter of water to prevent the impact of continuous immersion. The exact conditions are specified by the manufacturer for each device.
